Matthew M. Chverchko and Lucy Kopp

As much as people in the world like to think they and their cities are special and unique, sometimes they aren't. Sometimes, when you get to know enough people and places, you find a particular sameness to everything. The effect of this often goes like so: it is first depressing and then it is enlightening. If everyone's the same then everyone's your friend. If everywhere reminds you of home then everywhere is home.
In this spirit, we gave New Yinzer photographers Matthew M. Cheverchko in Pittsburgh and Lucy Kopp in Portland, Ore., a challenge: photograph five things in your city that capture a sense of urban life and then swap, taking each other's photographs and recreating them to your best abilties in your hometown.
